When the water-based epoxy coating meets the right dispersant, it will be so amazing!

In water-based systems, the situation is particularly complicated. There are many types of epoxy emulsions provided by suppliers. The emulsifiers used to prepare epoxy emulsions are also different. Therefore, although the dispersant has good storage stability in an aqueous epoxy emulsion, When added to another epoxy emulsion, stability is often a problem.
DISPERBYK-2012 solves this problem. It shows good long-term storage stability in different epoxy emulsions (Figure 2).
Wetting and dispersing agent's other main function is to reduce the viscosity of the system, thereby improving flow and leveling, and also improving defoaming performance. DISPERBYK-2012 uses controlled polymerization technology, which contains different pigment affinity groups in the molecular structure, and has good viscosity reduction properties for organic and inorganic pigments.
In the preparation of water-based coatings, a grinding process is usually used: a pigment concentrate is first prepared, and then an emulsion is added to adjust the paint. Pigment concentrates generally do not contain emulsions (most aqueous emulsions cannot withstand high-strength shear). In this case, it is very difficult to prepare a concentrate with a high pigment concentration due to the high viscosity. So what is DISPERBYK-2012's viscosity reduction performance in inorganic pigment-filler concentrates?
It can be seen that, in the concentrated paste of 70% inorganic pigment filler, DISPERBYK-2012 still shows good viscosity reduction performance.
If the pigment content continues to increase, when the pigment content is increased to 75%, it is generally difficult for a single wetting and dispersing agent to play a good role in reducing viscosity. When selecting the main dispersant, you can choose a small amount of secondary and low molecular weight auxiliary dispersant, and use it as a wetting agent. The resulting system is more stable and has a lower viscosity.
It is recommended to use a wetting agent with DISPERBYK-2012, such as DISPERBYK-199. After adding the wetting agent, the viscosity of the aqueous concentrated slurry of inorganic pigments is significantly reduced, and the operability of the grinding slurry is greatly improved.
