LSR (liquid silicone rubber) and HCR (high temperature cured silicone rubber, also known as high viscosity rubber) are the two core basic materials in the family of organic silicone elastomers. Although they all have excellent temperature resistance, chemical inertness, and biocompatibility, there are significant differences in physical form, processing technology, and application scenarios.
From the perspective of physical form and chemical composition, LSR presents a low viscosity liquid state, usually packaged in two components A and B. Component A contains a platinum catalyst, while component B contains a crosslinking agent. The two are mixed in precise proportions and undergo an addition reaction. HCR is a solid block or sheet adhesive with ultra-high molecular weight, belonging to a single component system, which usually requires the addition of organic peroxides or platinum catalysts to initiate cross-linking and curing. The fundamental difference in form directly determines the vastly different processing methods of the two.
In terms of production process and manufacturing efficiency, LSR mainly relies on liquid injection molding technology. Through specialized injection equipment, the material is accurately measured at low temperatures and injected into high-temperature molds for rapid vulcanization. This highly automated process not only has a very short molding cycle, but also has extremely high dimensional accuracy and almost no burrs, making it very suitable for large-scale, high-precision precision manufacturing.
In contrast, the processing of HCR usually requires manual or semi-automatic pretreatment steps such as mixing and cutting, followed by molding or extrusion molding. Its vulcanization time is relatively long, and additional trimming processes are often required after demolding the product, making it more suitable for producing large, thick walled or structurally simple components.
In terms of performance and application areas, both have their own focuses. Due to its excellent fluidity, LSR can perfectly fill complex molds, and the curing process has no by-products, with extremely high purity. Therefore, it is widely used in fields such as medical devices, maternal and child products, and precision electronic waterproof parts that require extremely high size and cleanliness.
HCR, on the other hand, exhibits superior mechanical strength and tear resistance, particularly in industrial scenarios subjected to high mechanical stress. It is commonly used in the manufacture of automotive gaskets, high-voltage cable insulation layers, and large industrial shock absorbers. Overall, LSR represents precision and efficiency, while HCR occupies an important position in versatility and high-intensity applications.
