Liquid silicone rubber, abbreviated as LSR in English, is a two-component addition molded silicone material with fluidity. Unlike traditional semi-solid silicone rubber that requires mixing, it consists of two components, A and B, typically including ethylene terminated polydimethylsiloxane, hydrogen containing silicone oil crosslinker, and platinum catalyst. When these two components are mixed in precise proportions, a hydrosilylation addition reaction occurs under heating conditions, rapidly sulfurizing into a highly elastic solid.
Due to the absence of low molecular weight by-products in the reaction process, liquid silicone rubber hardly shrinks during curing, maintaining extremely high dimensional accuracy. The material itself is non-toxic and odorless, with excellent physiological inertness, fully meeting food grade and medical grade safety standards.
In terms of physical and chemical properties, liquid silicone rubber exhibits outstanding comprehensive advantages. It has excellent fluidity and can easily fill complex mold cavities, making it very suitable for manufacturing thin-walled, small, and structurally precise components. The cured material not only has excellent tear resistance and resilience, but also has a wide temperature range, usually maintaining stable mechanical properties in extreme environments ranging from minus 60 degrees Celsius to 250 degrees Celsius.
In addition, it also has good aging resistance, ozone resistance, UV resistance, and excellent electrical insulation performance. By adjusting the formula, it can also be endowed with special functions such as flame retardancy, thermal conductivity, or self-adhesive. Its appearance can also be customized to be highly transparent, semi transparent, or various colors.
Thanks to its liquid rheological properties and rapid curing advantages, liquid silicone rubber mainly adopts liquid injection molding technology. This highly automated production method enables precise computer measurement and mixing, which not only greatly improves production efficiency and product consistency, but also effectively reduces the generation of waste and burrs, making it more in line with environmental requirements.
At present, liquid silicone rubber has been widely used in multiple high-end manufacturing fields. In the field of healthcare, it is used to manufacture implants such as catheters, respiratory masks, and artificial organs; In the field of maternal and consumer goods, it is an ideal material for baby pacifiers, soothing products, and high-end kitchenware; In the electronic and automotive industries, it is widely used as precision waterproof seals, insulation coating materials, and elastic components for new energy vehicles, providing key material support for the precision and clean production of modern industry.
