The difference between fluorosilicone rubber and ordinary silicone products

Fluorosilicone rubber products are one of the products, which are mainly used in mechanical construction and some heavy industries, so its performance and aging are much more prominent than many rubber and plastic materials, so what do you know and understand about it?

Fluorosilica gel is also known as trifluoropropyl methyl polysiloxane, also commonly known as special silicone rubber, its main material is carbon tetrafluoride and ethylene as raw materials, can be combined with trimethyltrifluoropropyl cyclotrisiloxane and an appropriate amount of tetramethyltetravinyl ring, tetrasiloxane plus a small amount of capping agent under the catalyst for solidification and mixing, its material and silicone rubber material compared with the performance has been effectively improved, the service life of the finished product is the most obvious.

The important characteristics of fluorosilicone rubber products are as follows:
1. Oil resistance, solvent resistance and chemical resistance
Compared with methyl vinyl silicone rubber, fluorosilicone rubber has excellent oil resistance, solvent resistance and chemical resistance; Even compared to fluoroelastomers, the resistance to oils and solvents is good. After impregnation in the same medium, temperature and time, it shows excellent durability, and it can be said that fluorosilicone rubber is the only elastomer that is resistant to non-polar media at -68 °C ~ 232 °C. The resistance of fluorosilicone rubber to methanol-containing gasoline is also relatively good, even in the gasoline/methanol mixed system, the hardness, tensile strength and volume change of its vulcanized rubber are very small, and after a long-term immersion test of 500h, the physical properties have almost no change.

2. Heat resistance
The pyrolysis of fluorosilicone rubber is the same as that of silicone rubber, namely: side chain oxidation, main chain breakage, side chain thermal decomposition and various compound reactions. Since the decomposition products can also cause the backbone to break, the heat resistance is usually worse than that of silicone rubber, and oxidative aging has begun at a temperature of 200°C. However, by adding a small amount of heat stabilizers such as iron, titanium, and rare earth oxides, it can be significantly improved, and it has sufficient heat resistance even at a high temperature of 250°C. Temperature has a greater effect on fluorosilicone rubber than silicone rubber, but less than fluorolaster. Foreign countries have also studied the service life of fluorosilicone rubber under the conditions of 150 °C× 2000h, 175 °C× 5000h, 200 °C × 4000h, and the result is second only to methyl vinyl silicone rubber.

3. Cold resistance
Fluorosilicone rubber has the same low temperature performance as ordinary silicone rubber products. Since fluorosilicone rubber is a linear polymer composed of soft Si-O as the main chain, the low temperature characteristics are better than those of fluoroelastomer with C-C as the main chain. Among them, fluorosilicone rubber has better low-temperature characteristics, and the brittle temperature is as low as -89 °C, while the general fluororubber is about -30 °C.

4.Electrical performance, radiation resistance
The electrical properties of fluorosilicone rubber are similar to those of ordinary silicone rubber, but the special value is that there is little change under harsh conditions such as high temperature, low temperature, humidity, oil, solvents, chemicals, and ozone. The radiation resistance of fluorosilicone rubber is not outstanding, but the radiation aging resistance is better than that of methyl vinyl silicone rubber.

5. Physical and mechanical properties
Like ordinary silicone rubber, vulcanized rubber has a relatively low mechanical strength (especially tear strength). Therefore, improving and increasing the strength of fluorosilicone rubber is also an important research topic.

6. Other characteristics
Fluorosilicone rubber has excellent weather aging resistance, and even after 5 years of exposure, it still retains good performance. Ozone is one of the most frequently generated gases in elastomers, but no cracks or cracks have been found in fluorosilicone rubber after dynamic or static tests.

To sum up, it can be seen that compared with ordinary silicone products, fluorosilicone rubber is more prominent in the performance and life, the normal service life of ordinary silicone products such as reaching the bearing capacity of fluorosilicone rubber will accelerate the aging capacity, tensile strength decreases, deformation and other phenomena appear, and fluoroelastomer and general fumed glue are different in that the raw material additives of the material are different, the purity of the added raw materials is higher, and the service life of the finished parts is also longer.
