High temperature resistant flame retardant silicone materials in aerospace applications

Silicone rubber material is an excellent insulating rubber material, which has the characteristics of ozone resistance and high temperature resistance. But the biggest disadvantage of this material is that it is flammable, and flame retardants with good properties are needed to overcome this shortcoming. In the field of aviation, we analyzed the preparation and properties of flame retardant silicone rubber, and discussed the flame retardant effects of several commonly used flame retardants on silicone rubber, so as to improve the flame retardant performance of this material and expand its scope of application. On this basis, the current research and prospect of aviation silicone rubber materials are further explored.

Because of the particularity of the use environment and technical requirements of aerospace vehicles, high-temperature vulcanized silicone rubber is widely used in aerospace products. Aerospace materials and process technology in the engineering department for many years of research and development work has accumulated a large number of high-temperature vulcanized silicone rubber formula and process, through the application demand analysis, the high-temperature vulcanized silicone rubber formula and process data collated into application cases, material performance indicators, formula law summary, process knowledge points and test methods and other content of the application.

In order to study the influence of different types of vulcanizing agents on the properties of high-temperature flame retardant silicone rubber, we applied the four vulcanizing agents BIPB, DCBP, BP and DCP to rubber production, and compared the properties of flame retardant silicone rubber such as elongation, hardness, tensile strength and flame retardancy.

After the secondary vulcanization, compared with the three vulcanizing agents of BIPB, DCBP and DCP, the use of BP vulcanizing agent causes the tensile elongation and tensile strength of silicone rubber to decrease, but its hardness is increased, while other vulcanizing agents improve the tensile strength of silicone rubber. In addition, these four vulcanizing agents have improved the flame retardancy of silicone rubber to a certain extent, which proves that different types of vulcanizing agents have a great influence on the heat resistance of silicone rubber.
