Characteristics of silicone rubber

Hits: 821 img

(1) High and low temperature resistance
Among all rubbers, silicone rubber has the widest working temperature range (-100~350 ℃). For example, ethylene based silicone rubber or low phenyl silicone rubber that has been properly formulated can still maintain elasticity after being aged in hot air at 250 ℃ for thousands of hours or 300 ℃ for hundreds of hours; Low phenyl silicone rubber vulcanized rubber can still maintain its elasticity after being aged in hot air at 350 ℃ for dozens of hours. Its glass transition temperature is -140 ℃, and its vulcanized rubber still has elasticity at temperatures ranging from -70 ℃ to 100 ℃. When silicone rubber is used as a heat-resistant coating on the inner wall of rocket nozzles, it can withstand temperatures of thousands of degrees Celsius in an instant.

(2) Resistance to ozone aging, oxygen aging, light aging, and weather aging performance
After being exposed to outdoor sunlight for several years in a free state, there is no significant change in the performance of silicone rubber vulcanized rubber.

(3) Electrical insulation performance
The electrical insulation performance of silicone rubber vulcanized rubber changes little when it is damp, frequency changes, or temperature increases, and the silicon dioxide generated after combustion remains an insulator. In addition, silicone rubber has fewer carbon atoms in its molecular structure and does not use carbon black as a filler, making it less prone to burning during arc discharge and highly reliable for use in high-voltage environments. Its corona resistance and arc resistance are excellent, with a corona resistance life 1000 times that of polytetrafluoroethylene and an arc resistance life 20 times that of fluororubber.

(4) Special surface properties and physiological inertness
The surface energy of silicone rubber is smaller than most organic materials, and it has low moisture absorption. When immersed in water for a long time, its water absorption rate is only about 1%. Its physical properties do not decrease, and it has good anti mold performance. It does not bond with many materials and can act as a barrier. Silicone rubber is odorless, non-toxic, and has no adverse effects on the human body. It has a slight reaction with body tissues and has excellent physiological inertia and aging properties.

(5) High breathability
Compared with other polymer materials, silicone rubber has good breathability, and its permeability to nitrogen, oxygen, and air at room temperature is 30-40 times higher than that of NR; It has selectivity for gas permeation, with a permeability for carbon dioxide that is about 5 times that of oxygen.

(6) Biomedical performance
The unique molecular structure of silicone rubber endows it with excellent biomedical properties, as demonstrated by the successful application of numerous animal and human experiments.
