Introduction of Dielectric Constant of Silicone Potting Compound

The dielectric constant of the silicone potting compound can be regarded as a capacitor when it is used to pot the power supply. The dielectric constant of the general potting compound is 3.0-3.3 (1MHz). Before potting, there is air between the two circuits, so the dielectric constant is approximately equal to the dielectric constant of air (such as 1.0), and after potting, it is the dielectric constant of the potting compound (such as 3.0).
Assuming that the air capacitance value between the two circuits before potting is 0.1pF, the capacitance value of the potting compound (dielectric constant 3.0) of the two circuits after potting is 0.3pF.

Standard for Dielectric and Flame Retardant Constants of Silicone Potting Compounds

The flame retardant grade of the addition type can reach UL 94V-0, and the flame retardant grade of the condensation type is UL 94V-1, which fully meets the requirements of the EU ROHS directive. Attachment: UL flame retardant grade standard. The flame retardant grade is generally gradually decreased from V-0, V-1, V-2 to HB.

Flammability UL94 rating is the most widely used standard for the flammability performance of plastic materials. It is used to evaluate the ability of a material to extinguish after being ignited. There are many ways to judge according to the burning speed, burning time, anti-drip ability and whether the drip bead burns. Numerous values are available for each tested material based on color or thickness. When the material of a product is selected, its UL rating should meet the thickness requirements of the wall part of the plastic part.

V-0: After the sample is subjected to two 10-second burning tests, the flame is extinguished within 30 seconds, and no burning objects can fall.

V-1: After the sample is subjected to two 10-second burning tests, the flame is extinguished within 60 seconds, and no burning objects can fall.

V-2: After the sample is subjected to two 10-second burning tests, the flame is extinguished within 60 seconds, and burning objects may fall.

H B: The lowest flame retardant rating in the UL94 standard. It is required to burn at a rate of less than 40 mm per minute for samples 3 to 13 mm thick; less than 70 mm per minute for samples less than 3 mm thick; or to extinguish before the 100 mm mark.

It can be used stably for a long time in the range of -50°C to 250°C, and is suitable for potting protection of module power supplies and circuit boards with high temperature resistance requirements.
