The main classification of surfactants
The most important classification of surfactants is whether the hydrophilic group is charged after dissolving in water. Based on this method, surfactants can be divided into nonionic surfactants (Nonionic), anionic surfactants (Anionic), and cationic. Surfactants (Cationic), and dual ion surfactants (Zwitterionic).
Non-ionic surfactants and diionic surfactants do not cause protein denaturation below the critical micelle concentration. In sharp contrast, ionic surfactants are strong protein denaturants, even at a concentration of a few mM, they can cause protein denaturation, which is 1000 times stronger than traditional chemical denaturants such as urea and guanidine chloride.
