More than 1 billion migrant workers "unemployed" at home 

Delayed construction and resumption include industries with a large number of employees such as manufacturing, construction, wholesale, retail, and service.

On the morning of November 20, 2019, the National Bureau of Statistics released the "Fourth National Economic Census Bulletin", which means a "panoramic picture" that comprehensively reflects China's current economic development situation, which is officially announced to the whole society. According to the data, at the end of 2018, there were 12.802 million legal entities in the eastern region, 4.929 million in the central region, and 4.058 million in the western region.

By industry, the top three industries in terms of the number of employees of legal entities are: manufacturing, construction, wholesale, and retail. The manufacturing industry employs more than 100 million people, ranking first.

Construction industry

As of the first half of 2019, there were 92,733 construction enterprises across the country, an increase of 6,740 over the same period last year, an increase of 7.84%, and the growth rate increased for four consecutive years. The construction industry employs 43.098 million people, accounting for about 7.3% of the total number of employed people in the society, accounting for a new high.

Catering  

Recently, the World Federation of Chinese Catering Industry, Social Science Literature Publishing House, and Kunming College jointly released the Blue Book on Catering Industry: Report on the Development of China's Catering Industry (2019). The report points out that the catering industry, as a labor-intensive service industry with a lower threshold, is an important industry in China to absorb the employment of skilled laborers and rural migrants.

In 2017, the catering industry contributed 42.561 million jobs, including 30 million traditional catering companies, 3.5761 million Internet catering service companies, and 9 million leisure agriculture rural tourism companies. Considering that the development of the catering industry drives the development of related industries such as agriculture, manufacturing, and tourism, as well as the development of local economies, which leads to more employment opportunities, its contribution to employment is greater.

The report pointed out that in recent years, the policy environment for the catering industry has been greatly optimized, and enterprises have fully enjoyed the favorable policies. "Internet +", "Double Innovation", and "Belt and Road" have become new growth points for economic and social development. The policy will be adjusted and improved to promote the establishment of a sound internal operating system for SMEs under the new normal, and to improve asset operation efficiency and anti-risk capabilities. Private companies and limited liability companies performed well, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan businessmen's investment companies performed even better, and the catering industry's ability to absorb employment continued to increase.

Courier industry

A few days ago, China Post Express, the state postal administration, released the "2019 National Survey Report on the Professionals of Express Delivery Workers." The report surveyed 65,514 courier workers, of whom over seven were men. Data show that people under 40 years old constitute the main body of express delivery practitioners.
