There are many types of sealant on the market. The sealant base polymer can be classified into silicone type, polysulfide type, acrylic type, polyurethane type, styrene-butadiene rubber type and butyl rubber type. So how do you choose the right sealant for such a wide variety of types?
1. Silicone sealant is preferred over other sealing systems
The silicone sealant is stable in quality and long lasting, unlike the acrylic system. As a result, they are extremely cost-effective, especially when used in kitchens and bathrooms.
2. What is the case for the acid system and the neutral system?
Acidic system: Acidic silicone sealant has excellent adhesion to common substrate surfaces in bathrooms or kitchens such as glass or ceramics.
Neutral system: Neutral sealant must be used when sealing substrates such as metal, plastic or concrete. Neutral silicone sealants are particularly suitable for use as corrosion-free seals for joints and expansion joints.
3. Can acrylic sealant be used as an exterior door and window seal?
Acrylic sealants cannot be used as exterior seals. Due to the inherent properties of acrylic materials, it is not resistant to ultraviolet radiation and is easy to shrink and crack. The country has already ordered the elimination of acrylic building adhesives for exterior walls.
4. What is the compatibility of silicone sealant with the surface of the coating or coating?
Most silicone sealants are not painted. If you want to paint, choose a hybrid sealant or acrylic sealant. It is recommended to apply a coating to the surface before applying the silicone sealant.

1. How to treat the surface of the substrate before sealing?
The area of the substrate in contact with the sealant must be kept clean and dry and free from dust, dirt, rust, grease and other contaminants. Non-porous substrates must be cleaned with a clean, white, lint-free cloth and solvent. As soon as the residual solvent evaporates, wipe it off with a clean, dry cloth as soon as possible. Before sizing, cut the tube mouth, then attach the nozzle and cut the mouth to the desired size. The sealant can be applied in spots or layers and needs to be exposed to moisture in the air to cure.
2. What issues should I pay attention to when applying glue?
Make sure the sealant is not deeper than the width. If the gap between the two substrates is large, inserting the strip is required to improve the performance of the sealant. The sealant is flattened with a suitable tool to make the surface more aesthetically pleasing; at the same time, the sealant is pressed into the joint surface to help eliminate cavitation or voids in the bond layer.
