Chemical structure and basic properties of methyl vinyl rubber

Methyl vinyl rubber is an important polymer synthetic material, whose main chain is composed of dimethyl siloxane units and a small amount of vinyl groups are introduced on the side chains. This special molecular structure design endows the material with excellent comprehensive performance. The dimethyl siloxane segments have high flexibility, allowing the molecular chains to maintain good mobility at low temperatures. Therefore, the material has excellent low-temperature resistance and can maintain elasticity in an environment of minus 60 degrees Celsius. At the same time, the bond energy of silicon oxygen bonds is high, and they have strong resistance to heat and oxidation, making the material difficult to degrade in high temperature environments and having a wide temperature range for long-term use.

The introduction of vinyl is the key to improving material performance. Ethylene, as an active reaction site, can participate in crosslinking reactions during the vulcanization process, significantly improving crosslinking density and efficiency. Compared to silicone rubber containing only methyl groups, rubber containing vinyl groups reacts more rapidly during vulcanization, forming a more uniform network structure, thereby improving the mechanical properties and heat resistance of the vulcanized rubber. In addition, the vinyl content can be adjusted according to actual needs, usually between 0.1% and 1%, to balance processing performance and mechanical strength of the final product.

The material itself is a colorless or slightly yellow elastomer, odorless and non-toxic, with good electrical insulation and physiological inertness, suitable for fields that require high purity. Its surface energy is low, exhibiting a certain degree of hydrophobicity and anti adhesiveness. In its uncured state, raw rubber has good plasticity, making it easy to mix and shape. By adding reinforcing fillers, vulcanizing agents, catalysts and other additives, its hardness, tensile strength and resilience can be further adjusted to meet the technical requirements of different application scenarios.
