Two component liquid silicone rubber, abbreviated as LSR, is the most precise and well-balanced variety in the organic silicon material family. It consists of two liquids, component A (ethylene containing polysiloxane) and component B (hydrogen containing polysiloxane with platinum catalyst), which are mixed in proportion before use and rapidly crosslinked under heating conditions through hydrosilylation reaction. The entire process does not produce by-products and does not require post-treatment. The cross-linked material is the final product.

The biggest advantage of LSR is its controllability. Compared to high-temperature vulcanized silicone rubber, which requires multiple processes such as rubber mixing, vulcanization, and trimming, LSR can be completed from mixing to molding in 30 seconds, with production efficiency more than ten times that of traditional processes. And because it is liquid injection, the mold accuracy can be controlled at the 0.01 millimeter level, and the product has no burrs, no bubbles, and no defects, especially suitable for precision parts with complex shapes.

In terms of performance, the tensile strength of LSR can reach 6 to 8 MPa, the elongation at break exceeds 200%, the Shore hardness can be adjusted from A10 to A80, and the temperature resistance range covers -60 ℃ to 200 ℃. More importantly, its biocompatibility has passed ISO 10993 and FDA certification, allowing direct contact with the human body, making it almost irreplaceable in the fields of medical and food contact.

LSR is not omnipotent either. It has extremely high requirements for the purity of raw materials. Once impurities are mixed into components A and B, cross-linking will fail and the entire batch will be scrapped. At the same time, the equipment investment is large, and the price of an LSR injection molding machine is three to five times that of a regular injection molding machine, which also limits its penetration in the low-end market.

Simply put, LSR is a precision instrument in silicone rubber that not everyone can use, but once used in the right scenario, it becomes an irreplaceable presence.
