Vinyl silicone oil is a type of polysiloxane with vinyl functional groups on its molecular chain. It appears as a colorless or pale yellow transparent liquid and is insoluble in water, but can be miscible with various organic solvents. Its molecular skeleton is composed of alternating connections of silicon and oxygen, with a silicon oxygen bond energy of up to 443 kJ/mol, endowing it with excellent high temperature resistance, low temperature resistance, and corrosion resistance. What truly sets it apart is the vinyl functional groups on the chain - under the action of platinum catalyst, these vinyl groups can quickly react with crosslinking agents containing active hydrogen, instantly transforming liquid silicone oil into an elastic material.

According to the different positions of vinyl groups, vinyl silicone oil can be divided into two categories. The vinyl groups of end vinyl silicone oil are concentrated at both ends of the molecule, with excellent fluidity and viscosity as low as 200 mPa · s, making it suitable for electronic potting adhesives and high fluidity coatings. The vinyl group of high vinyl silicone oil is distributed throughout the main chain, with higher cross-linking density and tear resistance strength exceeding 15 MPa. It is commonly used in heavy-duty seals and automotive components. The vinyl content is the core regulatory parameter. If the content is too low, it will lead to insufficient cross-linking and low hardness. If the content is too high, the material will become brittle and the aging resistance will decrease. It is usually controlled between 0.22% and 10%.

Vinyl silicone oil itself is not the final product, but is an irreplaceable core substrate for high-end materials such as addition molding liquid silicone rubber, organic silicone gel, electronic potting adhesive, etc. The explosive growth in cutting-edge fields such as global new energy vehicles, 5G communication, and artificial organs is pushing this seemingly ordinary transparent liquid to the center of the trillion dollar race track.
