Vinyl rubber is a fundamental raw material in the silicone rubber industry chain. The vinyl functional groups introduced into its molecular structure are chemically modified to endow silicone rubber with a series of breakthrough properties, making it an indispensable high-performance elastomer material in modern industry.

Vinyl rubber is formed by copolymerization of dimethyl siloxane main chain and a small amount of vinyl siloxane. The vinyl group in the molecular chain serves as the active reaction site, significantly enhancing the sulfurization activity of the material. This structure allows silicone rubber to form a three-dimensional cross-linked network through peroxide vulcanization, while the vinyl content can be precisely controlled to match the performance requirements of different application scenarios. The introduction of vinyl also extends the temperature resistance range of silicone rubber to -60 ℃~250 ℃, and some special raw rubber can even withstand high temperatures of 300 ℃. The helical structure of its molecular chain and the low glass transition temperature together ensure the ability to maintain elasticity at extreme temperatures.

In silicone rubber manufacturing, vinyl rubber is the base material for mixing silicone rubber. By blending with reinforcing fillers, vulcanizing agents, and additives, elastomers are formed through high-temperature crosslinking. Raw rubber with different vinyl content can customize the hardness, tensile strength, and elongation at break of silicone rubber. As a crosslinking point, the content of vinyl directly affects the vulcanization rate and crosslinking density. Research has shown that the comprehensive performance of silicone rubber is optimal when the ethylene mole fraction is within a specific range. The synthesis of vinyl terminated rubber further optimized the cross-linking structure, reduced "hanging chains", and improved material stability.

The performance improvement of silicone rubber by vinyl rubber is reflected in multiple dimensions. In terms of physical and mechanical properties, as the vinyl content increases, the hardness of silicone rubber increases, and the tensile strength and tear strength show peaks. Meanwhile, the ethylene based cross-linked network reduces compression set and enhances creep resistance. In terms of chemical stability, ethylene based rubber endows silicone rubber with excellent environmental aging resistance and medium resistance, and significantly better resistance to acids, alkalis, salts, and organic solvents than traditional rubber. In addition, the volume resistivity and dielectric strength of vulcanized silicone rubber have also reached a high level, and are widely used in high-voltage insulators, cable accessories, and electronic component packaging.
