1. Types of polymerization reactions

2. Catalyst and function
Anionic catalysts:

3. Polymerization reaction process

Chain initiation stage:
The catalyst reacts with cyclosiloxane to form the active center.
In anionic polymerization, the OH-anion attacks the silicon atom of cyclosiloxane, resulting in the cleavage of the Si-O bond and the formation of anion-containing linear siloxane oligomers at the end of the chain.
In cationic polymerization, H+ coordinates with oxygen atoms to break Si-O bonds and generate linear siloxane active centers containing cations at the end of the chain.

Chain Growth Stage:
The active center attracts more cyclosiloxane monomers, which form longer chains of polysiloxanes through ring-opening reactions.
The chain growth process is a reversible reaction that may be accompanied by a back-bite reaction and degraded into larger siloxane rings.

Chain Termination Phase:
The active center reacts with the capping agent or monofunctional substance, terminating the chain growth reaction.
The choice of capping agent affects the molecular weight and distribution of the polymer.

4.the role of the capping agent
Capping agents play a role in controlling the molecular weight of polymers in the polymerization reaction of silicone rubber. By adding capping agents, the molecular weight of the polymer can be reduced and distributed more evenly. The selection and amount of capping agent and the amount to be used need to be determined according to the specific product requirements and process conditions.

5. Polymerization reaction conditions
The polymerization of silicone rubber needs to be carried out under certain conditions of temperature, pressure and humidity.
