Fluorosilicone is a synthetic rubber composed of silicone and fluorinated side chains, with a series of unique performance characteristics that make it widely used in multiple fields. The following are the main characteristics of fluorosilicone gel:
1、 Oil resistance, solvent resistance, and chemical resistance
Fluorosilicone has excellent oil resistance, solvent resistance, and chemical resistance, and has significant advantages compared to methyl vinyl silicone rubber. Even compared to fluororubber, its oil and solvent resistance is not inferior. After immersion in the same medium, temperature, and time, fluorosilicone shows excellent durability and is the only elastomer that can withstand non-polar media at -68 ℃ to 232 ℃. In addition, fluorosilicone has good resistance to methanol containing gasoline. In the gasoline/methanol mixed system, the hardness, tensile strength, and volume change of its vulcanized rubber are very small, and there is almost no change in various physical properties after long-term immersion.
2、 Heat resistance
The high-temperature decomposition process of fluorosilicone is similar to that of silicone rubber, including reactions such as side chain oxidation and main chain breakage. Although its heat resistance is usually slightly inferior to silicone rubber, it only begins to oxidize and age at a temperature of 200 ℃. However, by adding a small amount of heat stabilizers such as iron, titanium, rare earth oxides, etc., its heat resistance can be significantly improved, making it have sufficient heat resistance even at high temperatures of 250 ℃.
3、 Cold resistance
Fluorosilicone has good low-temperature performance, with a brittleness temperature as low as -89 ℃, while general fluororubber has a brittleness temperature of about -30 ℃. This enables fluorosilicone gel to maintain good elasticity and mechanical properties even in low-temperature environments.
4、 Electrical performance and radiation resistance
The electrical properties of fluorosilicone rubber are similar to those of ordinary silicone rubber, but there is little change under harsh conditions such as high temperature, low temperature, humidity, oil, solvents, chemicals, ozone, etc. Although its radiation resistance is not outstanding, its radiation aging resistance is better than that of methyl vinyl silicone rubber.
5、 Physical and mechanical properties
Fluorosilicone, like ordinary silicone rubber, has relatively low mechanical strength (especially tear strength) in vulcanized rubber. But this drawback does not affect its application in many fields, as other performance advantages of fluorosilicone often compensate for this deficiency.
