Silane-impregnated coatings refer to small molecule silanes, the most common being isobutyltriethoxysilane, n-octyltriethoxysilane, isooctyltriethoxysilane. However, in the field of anti-corrosion, silicone waterproofing agents and silane-impregnated coatings are often mixed.
When choosing a silane-impregnated coating, I only look at his lotus effect or the waterdrop effect. The resulting corrosion protection did not meet the expected requirements, which cast doubt on the silane impregnation technology.
 "Lotus effect" refers to the effect that water can produce a lotus leaf on the base surface, that is, the water droplets roll. The lotus effect is the easiest to observe and the most deceptive. The main reasons are as follows: 1. The direct influence factor of the lotus leaf effect is the interfacial tension of the base surface. The length of the molecular chain, the structure of the hydrophobic group, and the roughness of the base surface all affect the lotus leaf effect. Second, waterproof and hydrophobic are two concepts. Hydrophobicity is an apparent contact angle CA > 90°. Water resistance is the ability to block water erosion.

Chloride Absorption Reduction Effect: The ability of silane-impregnated coatings to resist chloride ion erosion is measured.
     The above three indicators are the most basic and important indicators for measuring the effect of silane-impregnated coatings. It is clearly defined in JTJ275-2000 "Technical Specifications for Corrosion Prevention of Concrete Structures in Seaport Engineering", CCES 01-2004 "Design Guidelines for Durability of Concrete Structures", and JTS153-2015 "Design Standards for Durability of Water Transportation Engineering Structures".
       The effect of the material itself, the core indicators - the effective content: liquid requirements > 98.9%; paste requirements > 80%. Many material suppliers now offer significantly lower levels of effective substances than this standard. The most direct impact is that durability does not meet design requirements. Therefore, the selection of good silane-impregnated coatings must pay attention to the above indicators. Good silane-impregnated coatings are the guarantee of anti-corrosion effect.
