On April 1, 2020, Professor Huang Ruihua, the chief of the pig breeding system of Jiangsu Province and the dean of Huai'an Research Institute of Nanjing Agricultural University, was invited to rush to the site of the East China Sea base from Nanjing early in the morning to carry out on-site investigation on the construction site selection of the backup farm of the old Huai pig breeding farm in the East China Sea, accompanied by deputy director Ni Jingxiang of the agricultural village Bureau of Donghai County. Laohuai pig in the East China Sea is a national protected breed of livestock and poultry, and also a "provincial treasure" of our province. The chief expert and the comrades of the competent agricultural department of the East China Sea attach great importance to the new site plan.
Professor Huang Ruihua and his colleagues from the East China Sea agricultural and rural Bureau observed the topography and terrain characteristics of the alternative plot, inquired about the nature of the land carefully, understood the surrounding residential, traffic, water system, power grid and other environments, and discussed the feasibility of the plot as a backup base for Huai pig breeding and the basic ideas of the layout of the new site.
The East China Sea old Huai pig originated from the Qin Dynasty and has a breeding history of more than 2000 years. It is an ancient North China type pig species in China's history, and it is also the only local pig species in China at present, which is close to the wild boar. In the past, it was farmed black pig in Huanghuai salt sea area, with thick skin and black hair, which was similar to wild pig. Its meat contained more amino acids for protein production. It is a high-quality and high-grade green organic food with strong adaptability, rough feeding tolerance, obvious hybridization advantage, delicious meat and unique flavor. In August 2000, the Ministry of agriculture listed huaihei pig in the list of national livestock and poultry variety resources protection.
