It is not recommended that this product go anywhere near your face, as it can cause skin irritation. It has a good tear strength, meaning that you can really fuss with it and never worry about it tearing. It has good stability and great flexibility so that you can use it anywhere.
As long as you follow directions exactly as they are given, rtv silicone is a great product for all your mold making needs. It retains all the qualities of rubber and is great for casting urethane, cement, low melting metals, vinyl, wax, plaster, epoxy resins, and polyurethane resins as well. Because there is only a six to eight hour demold time, a two part mold can be done in one day, which really saves time for someone that makes a living doing this. Be sure to keep in mind when you are making molds that there is a optimum temperature threshold of three hundred and fifty degrees.
There are a few things to consider when using TAP rtv silicone. One is that some clays are not usable with TAP because of their sulfur content. TAP sells their own clay that is the best for use with make molds. Always be sure that you test your clay first if there is any question. The catalyst of the compound is blue so when it is fully mixed you will know because it will all turn blue. Make sure that you shake it up first so that there are no streaks in the silicone when you are done. A silicone thinner is ideal if you need more time to work with it. Keep in mind that the thinner reduces the viscosity but at the same time it makes your finished product less hard which is not always ideal. Keep this in mind when you are considering thinning down your silicone.
