In the data of thermal grease products at home and abroad, some are called thermal paste, and some are called thermal grease. Silicone grease is known as monosodium glutamate in industry, and is widely used in electrical insulation, lubrication, stripping, rust prevention, corrosion prevention, waterproof, shock-proof and so on.

Silicone grease is the product of secondary processing of silicone oil. Its main component is a polymer compound containing silicon atoms in its main chain (organosilicon compounds). At present, silicone polymers are mainly polysiloxanes. Polysiloxanes are chain, ring or network polymer compounds formed by polymerization of many bonded monomers, and are also commonly referred to as polysiloxanes. Its structural characteristics are that it contains a basic skeleton of alternating silicon atoms and oxygen atoms, each silicon atom is connected to an organic group, the silicon bond in polysiloxane has high stability, and the organic group is methyl, long chain alkyl, fluoroalkyl, phenyl, vinyl and other groups.

The main component of commonly used cosmetics is actually the same as thermal grease, namely polysiloxane.

Silicone grease has the same characteristics as silicone oil, with excellent heat resistance, electrical insulation, weather resistance, hydrophobicity, physiological inertia and small surface tension, in addition, it also has a low viscosity-temperature coefficient and a high compressive strength. In particular, its thermal stability and oxidation stability, so that it is not easy to deteriorate when in contact with the air body for a long time at 150 ° C, the oxidation effect is slow when in contact with oxygen and chlorine gas at 200 ° C, the use temperature can reach -50-150 ° C, and it has good lubricity and no corrosion on various substrates.

These properties of silicone grease make it the best choice for thermal conductivity media. The smaller surface tension allows it to spread well into the empty gap between the chip and the radiator surface. Thermal stability ensures that it can work properly at high temperatures, and electrical insulation ensures the safety of other electronic components. In order to improve its thermal conductivity, some functional fillers, such as metal oxides, are added to the silicone grease to prepare thermal conductive silicone grease.
